Balfe Motorsport is delighted to announce that double Pure McLaren GT Series champion Mia Flewitt will return to the team for a full season in the British GT Championship, racing alongside McLaren Factory Driver Euan Hankey.
The pair will be competing in a McLaren 570S GT4, a car which Mia and Euan raced to second place with the team in the Gulf 12 Hours in December. Both have also worked together in the Pure McLaren GT Series, where Euan was Mia’s driver coach over both of her Series winning seasons.
No stranger to the team, Mia re-joins Balfe Motorsport after racing in three rounds of the 2019 season at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, and Donington Park, alongside fellow Pure McLaren competitor Stewart Proctor.
Euan, meanwhile, has a wealth of experience in motorsport. He has taken a number of overall and class wins in series including the Le Mans Cup and European Le Mans Series, finishing as Vice-Champion in both, scored a Pro-Am second place at the 24 Hours of Spa and recorded a class win in the Dubai 24 Hours, as well as finishing on the podium in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Balfe Motorsport will travel to Oulton Park for the first rounds of the 2020 British GT Championship over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend in April with all three cars aiming for success in both GT3 and GT4. Liveries for its McLaren 720S GT3 and Mia and Euan’s 570S GT4 will be unveiled closer to the start of the season.
“I’m very excited to join Balfe Motorsport for our Pro-Am championship challenge in 2020 and looking forward to sharing my McLaren 570S GT4 with my driver coach of the past two years, and recently appointed McLaren factory driver, Euan Hankey.
“Having just finished in second place in the Gulf 12 Hours together with Balfe Motorsport, it gives me great confidence in our team’s ability to deliver when it counts. Bring on 2020!”
“I’m very excited to back on the British GT Championship grid. Coming back to the UK tracks will be a nice change and I’m looking forward to helping and supporting Mia in her graduation from the Pure McLaren GT Series to a full season of British GT.
“Having been her driver coach over the last two years it’s exciting to be a part of her development and hopefully we’ll be continuing that success into 2020. Having recently finished second in a Balfe Motorsport one-two at the Gulf 12 Hours, it was great to see and experience what a great team they are and I’m looking forward to developing that relationship further.”
“It’s great that Mia felt comfortable after three competitive races with us in the British GT Championship this season and was happy to return for a full campaign in 2020. Bringing Euan with her will make the pairing ultra-competitive and I’m expecting to manage some internal team rivalry but, it will be very positive. We’ll have double the data so it will boost Michael and Graham and raise the bar for everyone. I expect Mia and Euan to push them hard all year.”
